Tales from Lithuania
In September we were invited to take part in Namas Nr X Festival in Lithuania. Dante or Die artists Lucy Dear and Fiona Watson spent a week with local theatre-makers devising a site-specific performance.
"For me it was a totally new experience. Everything was a surprise. The way our teachers were helping and leading us throughout the whole workshop was amazing. Ideas and methods... were really great. And the best part of it is that you can use all of it in your everyday life. So it is both useful - for your professional career and your life in general." - Participant
The performance was in a historic fort in Kaunas. They learnt about the history of the site and responded to the space to create a unique performance under archways, underground, in the fields, on top of barrels. The participants were local theatre-makers exploring site-specific performance for the first time.
"I surprised myself. I was surprised by how bravely I went through the experience without judging myself or others. During this process, I found more confidence in myself, and I am incredibly grateful for that." - Participant
Kaunas is currently European Capital of Culture, with a grand opening of 40 festivals, 60 exhibitions and hundreds of stage events across the city.
In October our Co-artistic Directors, Terry and Daphna, are traveling to Sweden to support the making of a new site-specific performance with Emblas Dans & Theatre.
