Place Based Community Engagement

“ Dante or Die were able to capture the emotive personal histories of so many local people, while weaving them into a complex narrative of regeneration and urban planning - that's a very fine line to balance, which they did with utmost authenticity and creativity.”
Adriana Marques, Peabody

We love nothing more than working with local people in the places that we’re creating new work. An example of this is 2024’s A Ballad of Thamesmead.

Commissioned by Greenwich + Docklands International Festival and Peabody, "A Ballad of Thamesmead" was an innovative theatrical production created to celebrate and amplify the voices of a unique and often overlooked community. Set in and about Thamesmead, a vibrant neighbourhood in Southeast London, the production was conceived as a participatory creation, bringing together residents, artists, and professional creatives in a powerful collaboration. The project took inspiration from the architecture and planning of the ‘town of tomorrow’ and centred around the historic clocktower in the town centre, culminating in two nights of site-specific performances as part of GDIF 2024.

“It was a fantastic tribute to the town. I loved the music, the narration from local voices made it feel real, and the construction of Thamesmead with models that were recognisable as local landmarks was breathtaking”
