Criminal Justice Communities

Since beginning our first R&D of Kiss Marry Kill in 2018, we have worked in collaboration with a variety of criminal justice communities:

  • Approaches to Theatre Making: a 10-week training programme for ex-prisoners giving practical insight into all aspects of creating original productions. Participants were invited to audition for Kiss Marry Kill, resulting in ex-prisoners making up 50% of the cast
  • In-prison writing & devising programmes at HMP Swaleside & HMP Standford Hill
  • Pupil Referral Units: long-term remote devising projects commissioned by Ideas Test in which students partake at times of the week where it is possible for them, though DOD artists collaborating with teaching staff. Both projects to date have resulted in excellent retention and digital artworks created by the students.

‘We’ve learnt how to be more confident. How to stand up for ourselves. How to put ourselves out there when we didn’t think we could.’
Shane, Young Artist, Will Adams Centre, co-creator Morpheus

‘It has been a joy to see the students exploring different thoughts, feelings and emotions which they may not always get the opportunity to do in this current climate.’
Tammy Rodden, Art and Design Lead, Will Adams Centre
